The other half of our company is working on our newest spinoff, Leftt.io. Leftt [short for Left Travel], aims to raise the standard in the world of meta vacation rentals by delivering new levels of choice to the rising needs of the online traveller. We have an extensive travel brand portfolio that includes RentByOwner.com, Renters.com, RentalHomes.com, BedroomVillas.com, and others.
Our new office is probably the coolest office space in the Lower Mainland not found in Vancouver. Complete with ping pong table, foosball, and an espresso machine, you are never going to want to leave.  We are located in the suburbs so that our employees can live and work in their community. This is very important to us and we were just awarded the 2015 Community Engagement Award from the BCTIA. It was pretty cool! If you do commute, it is only 40 minutes against traffic from downtown Vancouver, and as we are just across the Golden Ears Bridge, we are extremely convenient to all the talented people in the Tri-Cities, Langley, Surrey, Mission, New West and all points in between.  Just think of all the time you will save from commuting!

About the Job                         

So what will you be doing?

  • Employee relations – we need you to be aware of the pulse of our team members, the office vibe, and to help us maintain a great team environment
  • Recruitment and people pipeline support
  • Facilitation, administration, and development of training programs
  • Assisting with compensation and benefits management
  • Development, maintenance, and administration of company people policies
  • Provide administrative support for Employee Experience programs such as performance reviews, talent planning, compensation programs, retention programs, etc.
  • Coordinate and drive forward our award-winning Community Engagement Program and Community outreach programs
  • Provide process and systems recommendations to support the evolution of our Employee Experience programs
  • Assist with manager training and onboarding related to Employee Experience programs as required

Essential Skills

  • 1+ years of previous experience in an office administrative role
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent College + Life experience
  • A passion for the entire people process
  • Accuracy, confidentiality, clear communication and follow up are key accountabilities
  • Excellent technical ability (Word, Excel, Database programs)
  • You have high expectations of yourself and others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and abilities
  • Detail-oriented and committed to a high degree of accuracy

Useful Things

  • Experience as a Human Resource Generalist
  • Educational background in Human Resource Management
  • Knowledge and/or curiosity of employment/labour standards
  • Knowledge and/or curiosity of Human Rights Legislation
  • Knowledge and/or curiosity and interest in Executive Assistant type role
  • Knowledge and/or curiosity and interest in Project Management type role
  • Knowledge (and willingness to accept) that sometimes it requires we work around the clock — not because someone is poking you with a sharp stick, but because you want to and we need to
  • Knowledge that you don’t know everything and that we don’t know everything, but if we put our heads together, we can probably figure it out at least as well as anyone else.

Personality

  • You must be a risk taker who has a passion for entrepreneurism.
  • We still classify ourselves as a Startup even though we are an international team of 80+. We are presently approx. 20 in Maple Ridge and 60+ in Bangladesh, so you must want to work in a Startup.
  • You realize that failure is an option, because failure means that you have started
  • Maybe you have worked in a large company in a some type of office administrative role, or maybe you just recently graduated from a Human Resource program, but in any role, you had wished to be part of a smaller team where you would have a direct impact on the business as a whole
  • You must be a self-starter and be able to manage yourself and your projects
  • You can self-learn as things change; and quickly, because learning is something that you have to do daily
  • You should be up-to-date on your Internet memes (that way you know if we are laughing at you or with you). Bonus points if you have earned a whack of karma on reddit.
  • You should want to build something really cool, so that in a couple of years we all say, “Wow! Look what we’ve built together”
  • You must believe in the mantra of “Work hard, play hard.”
  • You must be able to laugh at yourself and roll with the punches
  • You must tolerate animals (On any given day, we may have a dog in the office. Or sometimes a cat. Though never together. That day was not a good one).

Compensation & Next Steps

While your salary will be competitive and based on your experience, we believe that as we build this out together, we can all share in the upside and increase compensation as revenues increase for the brands you are involved in.
